Winter Knitty

The Winter Knitty is up today and there are a *ton* of patterns this issue! My thoughts on a pattern by pattern basis:

Center Square - cute, but I'd never make or wear it.

Calorimetry - I'd like it more if it was in a solid yarn, and if I'd not just had a very, very big chunk of my hair hacked off (it went from a good 5" or more below my shoulders to um... my chin. I am still in mourning. WTF was I thinking?!).

Hexed - I like Lamb's Pride fine... for felting. I don't ever intend to wear a garment made of it, though. And even if this was in a different yarn, it's not somehting I'd wear. Ever.

Antifreeze - I am very tempted to make one omitting the strap holes - Chris has been wanting a balaclava for ages and this is essentially one. But I like the short row shaping. So it's a maybe for him for one day in the future.

Binary - I *love* this. And I am so not a scarf person. Or a binary code geek. But this... love it. I wish I had someone to knit it for. Heh... there's the one ex who's a computer programmer, but um, well, how the hell would I explain knitting a scarf for an ex I haven't seen in more than 10 years (though very recently started talking to again)? If ever I did make it... it sure wouldn't be in Red Heart though. *shudder*

Argosy - again, I am not a scarf person, but this is lovely.

Corazon - not a mitten person either. And I'm scared of fair isle. But they are cute.

Tiffany - see above comment.

Legwarmer socks - nope. Sorry. Can't do it.

Rolling thunder - pretty, not something I'd ever make or wear though.

Monkey - with a name like Monkey I was hoping for bananas or something. Alas, I don't particularly like lace socks. But they are ok.

Eiffel - I'm not really a fan of lace in general, but I *love* this sweater. Especially that it uses hemp yarn. Might consider it in the future, possibly doing a modified version of all ribbing without the lace at the bottom.

Lauren - not a fan of this one.

Emerald - like it, would never wear it. Maybe for my mom, I can picture her in it.

Twinkletoes - very cute. I'd not wear them, but I love that they come in children's sizes too, and I can totally picture both Sage and Harley wearing these.

Spanish dancer - pretty, but it'd be blah in any other yarn I think. And um... Claudia hand painted yarns are nowhere near within my budget. Not that I'd wear it anyway so it really doesn't matter too much I think.

Slingshot - cute. I don't drink coffee, and if I did it wouldn't be in a paper cup, and I wouldn't be carrying it around if it was. So not something I'd ever need or want, but I can see it being practical for some.

Baba - not a skater. And I wonder just how sturdy they would be. Whatever.

Venezia - beautiful. I don't have a need or desire for napkin rings, though I could totally see this being made larger for a bangle bracelet.

Brown bag - dear god, why is there a sticker on that apple? Please take it off. Anyway, cute, and yay for young designers, but not something I need/want.

Starsky jr. - wasn't really a fan of the original, but this is cute. Might show it to Harley. And she might like it. Or she might hate it. It's hard to tell with her.

Blended hues - cute, nothing out of the ordinary though. And I'd rather use one single strand of heavier yarn as opposed to triple-stranded laceweight.

Piggie - I have mixed feelings on this. It's cute yet at the same time it's too cute.

Norberta - Sage walked into the room while I was looking at Norberta and declaired that she must have one. Pattern's already printed out. Will most likely be yarn subbing, though. Once I decide what yarn to use. Might involve a trip to the store. But it can wait until after the holiday knitting is finished. Norberta is awesome. Will have to make one for Harley as well. Not a problem, though.

Sheldon - she also wants Sheldon. Of course. And I don't blame her. He's freaking adorable.

The Book of Knitty - too, too cute. If Sage was younger I'd make it for her. Eventually. Alas, I think she prefers the stuffed critters to the knitted book of knitted things. But it's very cute.

So... all in all, a lot of nice patterns, only one absolute definite addition on the to-make list (Norberta), but a few others to consider for the future as well.

And this is a very, very long post.
